Strand Woven Flooring Press (Hot Press VS Cold Press)

Strand Woven Flooring Press (Hot Press VS Cold Press)

Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring Hot Press VS Cold Press

Strand woven bamboo flooring is newly developed in recent years, a new type of green environmental material with consistent high quality. Strand woven bamboo is a wood manufacturing process based on principles of reorganization, processed with bamboo as raw material, a new bamboo floor board. Strand woven is composed from bamboo beam which is cracked into long and cross-linked fiber, then drying, gluing, and pressing to get the log of strand woven.

There are 2 pressing methods for strand woven - hot press and cold press, the preparation of pressing is same, the drying and pressing are different. Both pressing have advantages and disadvantages.

Cold-press need dip in glue after lowering down the moisture content of bamboo strips, and then drying, loading bamboo strips into mold, pressing into log, locking up into the temperature room for heat curing. Then breaking up the mold and balancing the board. Cold-press is less investment in equipment, high efficiency of production, good resistance to deformation, available in various colors.

Cold-press formed a square log and size is 1860 × 104 × 140mm. Hot press is a wide panel at the size of 1860 × 1260 × 35mm/45mm, then cutting into the flooring specification.

Cold Press

Advantages: cold-press has a long curing time, less color variation, cutting process is simple. Workers are in labor-intensive, its flexibility of the less capable than the hot press.

Disadvantages: In cold-press, heat curing is after bamboo strips are loaded into the mold, so the mold is gotten heated and this makes its expansion as well. The log edges will not has the density as in the middle, always less. Easily paralyzed edges, likely to cause uneven density of the board. This will result the flooring surface with the problems of cracking, deformed and ripple after coating.

Hot Press

Advantages: Hot-press overcome some deficiencies of cold-press, also combined with bamboo plywood production technology, pressed after heated. The press is completed under the pressure of thousands of tons, uniform density, no paralysis edges, no ripples.

Disadvantages: hot-press strand woven is relatively higher density, more difficult to cut, material cost is also relatively high. Heat curing time is shorter so strand woven has larger color variation than cold-press. Hot-press is a large investment in equipment, lower production efficiency, a single color - carbonized; labor intensity is small, the product toughness.

Strand woven bamboo flooring also has good sound insulation, higher utilization of bamboo, more stable and durable. Strand woven is the future trend of bamboo flooring.

Strand woven bamboo flooring has the following main advantages compared to wood flooring:

  • 1) Strand woven is using of renewable resources - bamboo as raw material, as an alternative to traditional wood for production. The utilization of bamboo is very high - more than 90%, is 2 times than the traditional mode of production of raw material utilization. Strand woven is not only sustainable production, but also effectively protect the environment.
  • 2) The density of strand woven bamboo flooring up 1200kg/m3, 1.6 times than ordinary wood floor, high hardness, high strength, high toughness. Therefore, strand woven has characteristics of density, high strength, impact resistance, wear-resistant.
  • 3) Strand woven bamboo flooring is resistant to water, deformation, etc., it was determined 24 hours thickness swelling of only 0.4%, far better than ≤ 2.0% of European standards.
  • 4) Formaldehyde emission of strand woven is in the 0.35mg / L or less, has reached the green standards in Europe and America, is a truly green product.
